Rewards Program for Plasma Donors

At Grifols, we believe that our plasma donors are true heroes—and heroes deserve extra recognition. These repeat donation benefits are just one way we thank you for being a part of our plasma donor program in Canada.

Remember

You must successfully donate a second time within six months to become a plasma donor. Without two sets of plasma test results and health screenings, we can't use your plasma to make our lifesaving medicines. Please schedule your second plasma donation appointment with your local plasma donation centre.

How Often Can Repeat Donors Give?

You may donate up to twice in a 7-day period with a minimum of 48 hours in between donations. This protects your health and ensures high-quality plasma collection as part of your ongoing plasma donation routine.

  • Exceptions & Flexibility: If you experience a temporary deferral (e.g., low blood pressure), our staff will advise you on when to safely resume, following standard plasma donation guidelines.
  • Pro tip for Scheduling: Book your next two plasma donation appointments in advance—ideally on the same weekday slots—to maintain a steady plasma donation schedule and secure your preferred times.

Ongoing Health Screenings

Returning plasma donors benefit from an expedited screening process, but key plasma donation health screening continues at every visit. Our medical staff will check your vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature) and perform a finger prick blood test to assess your health and eligibility for plasma donation at each appointment. These streamlined checks help reduce your wait time while maintaining strict safety standards for all returning plasma donors in Canada.

Pre- Donation Nutrition Tips

Hydration

Drink plenty of water (about 355- 710 mL) 30 - 60 minutes before arriving. Staying hydrated is one of the most important steps in what to do to prepare for plasma donation, helping reduce vein-access issues and speeding recovery.

Eat a healthy meal

Aim for high protein and iron rich foods such as lean chicken, turkey, fish, eggs or legumes, kale, spinach before your appointments.

Alcohol & Caffeine

Avoid alcoholic beverages, coffee, energy drinks, before and after donating. Both alcohol and caffeine can dehydrate you, and reduce iron absorption in the blood which is essential in maintaining strength and energy.

High-Fat or Greasy Meals

Avoid fast food, heavy sauces and fried snacks on donation day. These foods lead to a high concentration of fats in your blood, making plasma collection less efficient.

Tobacco Products

Smoking immediately before your visit constricts blood vessels and can make needle insertion more difficult, so please refrain for at least 30 minutes beforehand.

Loyalty Milestones & Special Perks

To thank you for your continued donor support, we’ve introduced exclusive rewards for repeat donors. These benefits are part of our way of recognizing your long-term impact and commitment.
