We are pleased to welcome back donors as we gradually reopen our Canadian donation centres. The first centres will reopen with a reduced number of appointments, and capacity will increase gradually. Our focus remains on quality, donor safety and a smooth return to plasma collection.

Please check if your local centre is open and accepting appointments before planning your visit. We appreciate your patience during this time and continued support.

Give plasma, make a difference

With every plasma donation, you make a difference for patients in Canada. Plasma is the liquid portion of blood which contains water, salts, enzymes, antibodies and other proteins that help our bodies function. It serves as the basis for essential plasma-derived medicines that help patients with rare and chronic diseases – sometimes life-threatening – to lead healthier lives. Plasma cannot be created in a lab. It is only available through the voluntary donations of people like you who generously choose to give.

Plasma donation eligibility: Are you eligible to donate?

Before you book your first plasma donation, please review our general donation requirements as well as our eligibility criteria. Meeting these plasma donation eligibility requirements helps ensure a safe and successful donation—for you and the patients who rely on plasma therapies.

Be 17–68 years old to qualify as a plasma donor.

* Winnipeg U of M donors must be above 18 years of age.

Weigh between 50 kg and 180 kg.

This weight requirement ensures adequate blood volume for the plasmapheresis procedure.

Bring valid photo ID, proof of address and your Social Insurance Card to your appointment.

Verifying your identity is required under national regulatory standards. We also required you SIN and proof of address as part of our validation process.

There are additional eligibility requirements to ensure the safety and well-being of both donors and patients.

Grifols in Canada

Grifols is collecting plasma in Canada to manufacture immunoglobulin medicines exclusively for patients in Canada. These vital therapies are used to treat immune disorders, autoimmune diseases and other serious conditions such as primary immunodeficiency, chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy (CIDP) and Guillen Barre Syndrome (GBS).

Since 2022, we’ve been supporting Canadian Blood Services to increase Canada’s self-sufficiency in immunoglobulins. Today, through the combined collection efforts of CBS and Grifols, we have increased Canada’s immunoglobulin sufficiency from 15% to more than 31% as of early 2026, moving closer to our goal of fulfilling at least half of the country’s immunoglobulin needs with plasma donated in Canada.

Help us make a difference for the thousands of Canadians who depend on these therapies. Give plasma today!
