Building Canada’s Future in Therapeutics
Grifols’ new state-of-the-art plasma production plant in Montreal, Quebec, Canada represents a major milestone in our commitment to improving national self-sufficiency. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and real-time quality monitoring systems, this facility will serve as the cornerstone of Grifols’ long-term commitment to producing plasma-derived therapies for Canadian patients with in-country manufacturing capabilities.
As part of a three-phase project, Grifols has been expanding and adapting the site to meet its manufacturing standards. The first phase – an albumin purification and filling facility – has been completed. Work is ongoing on the expansion of fractionation and immunoglobulin purification facilities, which are expected to become operational by the end of 2027.
The site will have an annual fractionation capacity of 1.5 million litres of plasma – enabling the manufacture of essential plasma-derived medicines for patients with immunodeficiencies and critical care needs. By localizing production, we aim to reduce reliance on imports, shorten lead times, and strengthen Canada’s plasma-derived therapy supply chain.
From construction to commercial production, every phase of this project is another step in providing plasma therapies for Canadian patients.

Building Local Capacity
Grifols’ new plasma facility in Canada not only provides in-country manufacturing capabilities, but also delivers lasting economic impact. Nearly 800 Canadians are employed across Grifols’ Montreal manufacturing site, plasma donation centres, and national operations – demonstrating a strong and growing Grifols regional footprint.
This investment drives job creation and expands career opportunities in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and donor services, reinforcing Canada’s increasing immunoglobulin self-sufficiency.
Community Engagement
Grifols is deeply committed to the communities where it operates in Canada, extending its impact beyond healthcare through local investment and community health initiatives. Through its plasma donation centres and Montreal manufacturing site, Grifols fosters job creation, supports economic growth, and advances health.
A key example of Grifols commitment to community wellbeing is our active partnerships with regional food distribution networks like Feed Ontario and Harvest Manitoba. In Ontario, Grifols collaborates with Feed Ontario – an organization that works closely with food banks across the province to help tackle food insecurity through employee-led food drives, volunteer programs and financial support that strengthens these critical services.
Meanwhile in Manitoba, Grifols works alongside Harvest Manitoba – an organization which distributes over 12 million pounds of nutritious food annually across more than 350 food banks and agencies serving approximately 50,000 individuals each month.
Whether through donation campaigns or hands-on involvement, Grifols staff and donors actively contribute to improving access to nutritious food for vulnerable families—showing how local partnerships also strengthen community well-being.
